CHILL

I like art when it’s on the button.

Like ‘Big Data’ at Somerset House and this…

‘Use, user, used’ @zabludowicz_col.

*****

Cutting into 24 hour work culture through…

…some words:

cats, boxes, heads, wonderlands, graphics, screens, dancers (we thought they were just people there), wrecks, coats, hammers, sickles and Britney

Just what we’ve always wanted.

Chill people.

Cheers,

SIX

We want one of these mobiles for a nursery for baby.

They are enchanting.

Alexander #Calder @tate modern.

*****

I really just love the simple colours, shapes and sounds moving at random and it is as simple as that.

“My fan mail is enormous.” Said Alexander. “Everyone is under six.”

QUOTES

Quotes are good aren’t they?

#tibetssecrettemple @explorewellcome

*****

It was two hours to wait to do the coloured mist thing.

So we didn’t.

This was good too.

“Birth, sickness, ageing and death flow ever onward without food or bridge… Have you prepared yourself a boat?”

Mahasiddha Padampa Sangye

Blimey, I’ll get on to it…

“Some are bound by renouncing things. Others by these same things gain unsurpassable enlightenment.”

Mahasiddha Saraha

The second one sounds better. I’m that one. The unsurpassable enlightenment thing.

“It is with our emotion that we create demons and gods: those things we don’t want in our lives and world are the demons; those things which we would draw to us are the gods and goddesses. The rest is just scenery.”

Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche
My mum and dad walk me and give me food but gods? Hmm.

“I have seen in my wandering a great temples and shrines but none are as blissful as my own body.”

Mahasiddha Saraha

There was a lot to read plus many statues and pictures and drapes.

I did like it.

“The mind is just like a body… You have to nourish it you have to clean it.”

A video at the end.

I mean it was all good stuff.

“They [children] don’t have a moment of silence.”

Video.

Aaah yes. It’s busy being a kid.

And a cultural staffy.

DATA

It was quite a lot to take in.

#bigbangdata @somersethouse.

90% of the data in the world today was created in the last two years alone

*****

It was quite a lot to tweet.

It was quite a lot to Instagram.

It was quite a lot to Audioboom.

“I tried to capture my laughs which was really hard and got in the
way of enjoying life.” Giorgia Lupu and Stephanie Posavec.

At that point we gave up.

*****

Perhaps the most interesting bit was former National Surveillance Agency employee William Binney and his concerns about our apathy towards government surveillance.

“We haven’t had anything to say so far.”

As programmes he’d designed to report on enemy foreign states were

“Turned inward.”

Best exhibition of the year,

KITES

“There are no rules in the flying competitions.”

Banned by the taliban, Afghans are now free to fly kites again.

And this is shown sumptuously in a lovely exhibition @museumchildhood.

“The sport has taken on the status of an art form.”

It was moving.

*****

Now just 24 weeks, I want to take my boy kite flying one day.

I also want to show him all the lovely museums and galleries of London.

NERVOUS

Sometimes you want to do something but not too many things and nothing hard.

*****

I’m going to say again about Herald St in Bethnal Green.

They’re are 5 galleries.

All free.

All showing interesting art.

You have to buzz but then it’s like a succession of aladdins caves.

Don’t be nervous.

Visual Art is easy.

CRUSTACEANS

“I taste faint regret but know there’s no going back.”

*****

Well I’ll be!

There’s a lot going on.

#jonrafman @zabludowicz_col

You can:

a) lie in a ball pit.

b) lie on a water bed.

c) sit in a cup board.

d) sit and watch films.

e) do a maze thing (if you’ve booked).

f) look at the art.

Some words: balls, art, computer games, nudity, gunk, bedrooms, crustaceans, ladies of ill repute, sculpture, hot, church.

>>Why are you here?

>>I came to retrace my steps.

I think it was about immersion in a virtual world or something.

I liked it.

FIZZED

The oil portraits conjured awe, the sketches fizzed and the landscapes packed punch.

*****

Frank Auerbach @tate.

*****

My daddy had been showing these in 2D to his kids in class and wishes they could see the 3D.

Because there is so much texture… So much body to them.

POETIC

They say:

“As poetic as it is political, her work investigates movement, exchange, transformation, resistance and silenced historical narratives.”

Blimey.

#emilyjacir @_thewhitechapel

We say:

Some words: photographs, newspaper cuttings, music clips, telephone recordings, letters, postcards.

Fragments of a life.

“Shortly before his death, Wael destroyed his poems and everything he had ever wrote.”

Cheers,

Martin xx
