AVERAGE

“An average person loses 200000 bits and bobs in their lifetime.”

Should be more careful.

Some words: tickets, coins, combs, playing cards, clips, pens, money, oysters, grandparents.

They build a history out of these things don’t they.
Museums.

This one was Rainham Hall. It is one of those merchant houses from the olden times.

You know the ones.

This one was good.

*****

Imagine if you could only take 10 things somewhere.
Mummy and daddy said:

Below Eli but above each other.

Il take that.

5 Colin Stars.

It was very good.

STAIN

“Reading, embroidering, entertaining guests or strolling in the private garden.”

Wasn’t a bad life.

@EastburyManor House, Barking. @nationaltrust.

What’s this?

“No respectable Tudor lady wore knickers not even the queen.”

Goodness.

I was wondering about urine?

“Washerwoman used it as a stain remover.
Cloth makers used it to clean there wool.
Dyers added it to their coloured dyes to stop the colours from washing out.”

I use it to mark my territory.

The rooms were good when they had stuff in.

Particularly enjoyed the “chamber above the buttery.”

3 Colin Stars,

Cheers,

LONDONS FASHIONABLE HORNSEY

In somewhat of a follow up to the world famous openhouse blog post which we are still feeling the waves from now…

I went to a talk by the Hornsey Historical Society.

It was about an old school house.

How it was built and renervated.

This may not sound much.

But its not telly.

And its not radio.

And its not cinema.

And its not art

Its learning.

HEROES AND VILLAINS

So.
Here goes.
We kicked off with Lenin.
There was a funny story of a policeman in a cupboard.
Then there was Cromwell.
Messy business.
Exhumed corpses.
Then there was someone i wasn’t really listening too cos i was playing on my phone.
Then there was John Wilkes who seemed a nice chap.
Womaniser with a big chin.
Love a funny guide.
She’s on the old audioboo.

*****

Then we got a bit distracted because there was a museum about the St John’s ambulance.

ITS ALL HISTORY

Open house is as much fun in the rain as watching Oliver!

However after listening to some old stories (church*… For the social scene…) we listened to some old stories about an old school.

Some people are so dedicated to the pursuit of local history in a very extraordinarilly impressively impassioned way.

Look no glibness!

Now we were well aware Hornsey is a v desirable postcode but i never knew it was so interesting.

Home is always interesting.

FUN FOR ONE SECOND

Soane Museum.

We went there.

We didnt really like it.

It was like they didnt want u to be there.

Its the most astonishing building with some reasonable dusty things inside.

Thats a balanced review cos theres a good sentence and a bad sentence.

We also saw some olympic medals in the british museum.

Fun for one second.

Mildly diverted by old clocks.

History needs to be brought alive.

POT

Il tell u one thing about the egyptians.

They bloody love a pot.

Somethings are wondrous for their existence if not their content.

I mean, i love a pot as much as the next staff, but there were

A LOT OF POTS.

At the Petrie Museum (UCL).

We quite like just saying the name.

Free and friendly and fascinating despite a recurrent theme.

Combine it with the nearby Wellcome Collection for a Reasonable Afternoon.

Thats your lot children.

We're doing a lovely park for me tommorrow with art for im.

Cant tell u where but im not allowed in the gardens tho the exhibition told daddy on twitter theyd look after me (isnt that nice) while he pretends he knows more than he does.

Hes a fraud,

CAN MACHINES THINK?

Can machines think?

Can machines sulk?

He was a war hero.

He cracked the german encryption code which helped us win WW2.

He was gay though so he had to take female hormones or be imprisoned because it was bad then.

The exhibition had lots of old computers which we liked.

And a robot tortoise.

It was a nice small free exhibition which we like.

It was in that bit in the mezzanine on your right as you enter the science museum from exhibition road.

Exhibition road is full of cool green day buskers, bubble men and evil tourists.

The exhibition recieved 5 colin stars and the shop 4.

WONDERFUL

Listen up!

A Staffordshire bull terrier with an awareness of the visual and performing arts is speaking!

There are wonderful organisations and people all over fair London town.

Some arseholes too but we’ll ignore them.

Yes, I said arseholes. I’m normally so refined but its been a tricky week…

A tricky week alleviated by stumbling on this organisation which does all manner of interesting, creative and worthwhile things in east London…

Plus quality Meetups from London On Board and Crafty Afternoon at Oliver’s Cafe.

Furthermore… oh yes, there’s a furthermore.

See this film… It’s cool.

I spoil you, don’t I?

Get out go do!

Don’t hang around reading mildly amusing blogs.

Love,

Harley xx
